Balloons are simple items that help increase your score when popped.

AppearanceEdit

They are simple round balloons that vary in color.  They can be green, orange, or red.  In Balloon Trip mode, they change color after getting a certain number of balloons without letting any pass the screen. In the Bonus Stages, they change color after each round.  In Nintendo Land: Balloon Trip Breeze, they change color after getting enough balloons without letting any pass the screen.  This also effects the points given for each balloon.  Letting a balloon float off-screen breaks the combo and reverts them back to green (1 point).  The highest combo color is white balloons (10 points), which can only be obtained later in the game due to the large combo required in order to unlock them. In Balloon Kid, they are gray (Red in the color remake) and getting a combo of 20 will make them Double Balloons. In the Game and Watch version of Balloon Fight, balloons are much smaller and have longer strings.  They carry the pieces of the map to Oiram Repus's location. Combos work in this game too, but the Balloons don't change visibly. Also, you must collect 25 Balloons to proceed to the next phase. In Tingle's Balloon Fight, the Balloons look similar to their appearance in the Game & Watch version, but they carry Rupees instead of map pieces in this game.

FunctionEdit

Balloons must be popped in order to gain points from them.  To pop them, just float into them.  You can pop them during Bonus Stage when they are just barely over the camera due to the character's hit box.  In Balloon Trip, getting a combo of 20 Balloons without letting any pass will change their color and point value just in the same pattern as it does in the Bonus Stage. As mentioned earlier, in Balloon Kid, Balloons become Double Balloons after a combo of 20, and revert back to single Balloons when one passes.

Other GamesEdit

In Nintendo Land: Octopus Dance, the bonus level has green Balloons from Balloon Trip Breeze in the background, carrying various objects and creatures, such as the Octopus, Bulborbs, and Watermelons.

Official Descriptions Edit

In Nintendo Land, a Balloon item can be unlocked for the main plaza, and when you tap on it Monita will say this about it:

"It's just an ordinary balloon. I am trying my very best to resist the urge to pop it."

Also, the manual of Balloon Fight on the Game & Watch states this on the "Appearing Characters" page (Page 6):

"Drifting in the sky with the torn pieces of the hideout map attached."

Trivia Edit

  • The Rupee colors in Tingle's Balloon Trip are worth 1 Rupee (Green), 5 Rupees (Blue), and 20 Rupees (Red) in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, which is when Tingle's Balloon Fight seems to take place around. There are Yellow Rupees worth 10 Rupees in that game, but since the Balloon was already Yellow, they might have wanted a contrast in color.
  • In Balloon Kid, there was a power-up called the Power-Up Balloon that gave you invincibility when you popped it.
  • The Vs. Balloon Fight title screen looked a lot more like it was made out of Balloons, but the NES version likely did not have this due to a lack of space.
